Meet the team
Prior to founding silvertreebrands, Peter co-founded Zando.co.za and served as co-CEO. Zando is South Africa's largest e-commerce fashion store. Peter also co-founded jumia.com.ng, Nigeria's largest e-commerce store. Prior to founding Zando.co.za, Peter worked for McKinsey & Company as a management consultant between 2009 and 2011. In his role at McKinsey, Peter was involved in consulting in consumer goods, process optimization and provided strategic council in relation to the marketing and sales. Peter received a diploma in economics and mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Graz, in Austria.
Before founding silvertreebrands, Paul worked at McKinsey & Company, where he specialised in African growth strategy, and co-authored the McKinsey Global Institute report ‘Africa at work: Job creation and inclusive growth’. He brings deep understanding of opportunities on the continent and operational blockages to realising them. Before McKinsey, Paul co-founded Thornhill Associates, an online leadership development and feedback provider. He holds a PhD in physics from the California Institute of Technology.
Before founding silvertreebrands, Manuel co-founded Zando in South Africa, and served as co-CEO; and co-founded Jumia in Nigeria. Before relocating to South Africa Manuel worked as a Vice President for Corporate Development and Investments in Frankfurt for the Altira Group, focusing on African, renewable and German mid-cap investments. Manuel started his career as a Management Consultant for the Boston Consulting Group, where he focused on corporate finance and industrial goods projects in Germany, UAE, India, UK and South Africa. Manuel holds a B.Sc from University of Maastricht and Universita Luigi Bocconi.
Before joining silvertreebrands, Andrew worked for KPMG in Chicago within the audit practice, in asset management specializing in commercial real estate, private equity, funds, hotels, and provided guidance to clients on financial reporting. Prior to that Andrew completed his articles at KPMG, Cape Town, within the Regional Audit practice where he was involved in providing services to clients across a variety of industries. Andrew is a CA(SA) and holds a BCom Rationum, majoring in business management and accounting, as well as a postgraduate honors degree in accounting from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
Before joining silvertreebrands, Thandi worked for S. C. Johnson & Son, Inc. an American multinational manufacturer as Regional Marketing Manager, responsible for marketing commercialisation of global brands in Sub-Saharan Africa. Prior to that Thandi held multiple marketing and brand innovation titles with some of the big FMCG companies namely Danone S.A and Reckitt Benckiser PLC (RB). Having spent almost 11 years with RB a global force in health, hygiene and home products in multiple international locations, with a focus on emerging markets. Thandi has extensive experience in consumer marketing, driving accelerated growth via creating a competitive advantage as well as transforming insights to drive demand driven foresights, that drives marketing and commercial decisions. Thandi holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and Business Finance from the University of Witwatersrand.
Prior to joining Pet Heaven in 2019, Joelene served as a Merchandising Manager for Sportsmans Warehouse, where she managed a team of Buyers and Planners and specialized in Merchandise Planning. Joelene was with the Holdsport Group for nine years, developing teams and driving strategies. Joelene joined Pet Heaven in the early stages of the business, responsible for advancing Buying and Procurement. She holds a Bachelor of Business Science degree with an Honours in Marketing from the University of Cape Town.
Prof Shirley Zinn has held a number of leadership positions in Human Resources, including Human Resources Director of Standard Bank, Group Executive HR at Nedbank, and Regional Human Resource director for Reckitt Benckiser. Recently she has run her own consultancy which provides a consulting and advisory service in strategic HR, Transformation, Leadership, and Education.
Shirley is currently the Chairman of DHL Global Forwarding, and a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Boston Consulting Group among others. She served as the Chairman of the Institute of Bankers South Africa. She is currently an extraordinary professor at the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences and is past president of the Institute for People Management South Africa. She has received a Doctorate in Education from Harvard.
David Poulter has 30 years of broad international experience in business development, commercial finance, Corporate Governance, risk management, audit and as a trustee for large pension funds. He has held senior management positions such as SVP Finance – LAPAC/Europe/ Developing Markets & VP Internal Audit at Reckitt Benckiser. Furthermore he has several years of management experience in the food distribution and audit industry. David has received a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science and accounting.
